best books recently!

1. The masterwork of the ultimate master- nobel prize winner Toni Morrison's, 'Beloved' will break your heart into more pieces than your heart is actually made of. It tells the story of Sethe, a former slave, who tries to manage work, love and most of all motherhood as a free women, while being haunted by the ghost of her dead daughter, who is simply called Beloved.

2. In case you never heard of A.J. Jacobs, you should start reading his books immediately! They are fun, light, witty entertainment and always follow his tries to somehow improve himself. In this book, 'Drop Dead Healthy' he is on the quest to become the most healthy man on earth and I enjoyed it a lot! A.J Jacobs rules...my personal favourite is 'The Know-It-All', in which he reads the entire (!) Encyclopedia Britannica.

Encyclopedia Britannica liest.

3. The most famous, or at least the most outspoken, atheist of our time talks about why we believe, why there's no good reason to do so and why nature is breathtaking enough- without suspecting a godly hand behind every flower. The book is very focused on science and therefore not an easy read (for me) and even if I'm not fully convinced by all his arguments, it certainly is a fascinating read!

4. Don DeLillo's 'Falling Man' deals with 9/11 and the big theme of trauma, of how to keep on being alive, and being alive as a New Yorker, who was actually in the towers, after the attack.
Despite it's theme, it's not one bit sentimental, does not believe in American exceptionalism, and does not give easy answers. It's a well-crafted look at life after everything changes, and one can only feel awe for DeLillo's accomplishment. Highly recommended!

Don DeLillo's 'Falling Man' handelt vom 11.
